Born in Decatur, Illinois, Newbery Award-winning author Richard Peck has written a range of books for young adults. He has written heartwarming and humorous stories, such as A Long Way From Chicago and the Newbery-Medal-winning A Year Down Yonder. In addition, he authored a popular series of books about Blossom Culp, who has the gift of second sight, and is contacted by ghosts from throughout the centuries. Peck's thought-provoking stories deal with social issues such as death, suicide, rape, and censorship. Virtually every publication and association in the field of children's literature has recommended his books, including Mystery Writers of America, which twice gave him their Edgar Allan Poe Award.
Peck says, "I want to write novels that ask honest questions about serious issues. A novel is never an answer; it's always a question."
